The mission of Pathlight HOME is to change the lives of low income individuals and especially the homeless, by providing affordable housing and economic opportunities. For more than 25 years, we continue to be inspired by our founder, Rev. Fred Maxwell, whose vision was to solve homelessness through housing and job opportunities. Rev. Fred Maxwell instinctively believed in “Housing-First” long before it was adopted by communities around North America as the critical innovation needed to truly end homelessness.
We are pleased to say that Pathlight HOME was the first organization in Florida to pioneer the “Housing First” model. Throughout our 25 years of work, over 5,000 people have found safe, supportive and dignified housing. Going forward, we will continue to leverage our population specific expertise, our successful track record of public funding (Federal, State, County and City), and strong financial position to produce more affordable units for low income persons—including permanent supportive housing for the chronically homeless.
Pathlight HOME’s capacity to serve very-low income individuals and the chronically homelessprovides a critical civic infrastructure. The loss of these units from the existing housing continuum of care would be catastrophic for our community. Thankfully, as a result of sustainable asset management accompanied with professional supportive services, Pathlight HOME is prepared to extend the life of its existing units for the foreseeable future. This means continual life transformation for thousands of Central Floridians like Wayne, who are simply looking for a hand up. Wayne was in and out of shelters struggling to deal with multiple life challenges. He was paying $9/night to stay in one of Orlando’s dormitory-style overnight shelters. It can be a never ending hamster wheel for the chronically homeless.
